Tcu which conference

If the Big East as we know it crumbles under the weight of college football's burgeoning superconferences, what will become of its newest member? The way I see it, there are three possible destinations for TCU. The Big East is already populated with more than a few schools that don't compete in its football league. Georgetown, St. Notre Dame continues to maintain its football independence while competing in the Big East in a litany of other sports.

It would certainly be a route that might appeal to TCU. This is a fairly unlikely scenario, but a very favorable one for TCU. Joining the Pac conference makes the most sense for the Horned Frogs based on geography and connections with west coast teams from Mountain West days.

Time zone changes and playing night games for television purposes is not ideal for coaches and student-athletes, but better choices may not exist.

If it does, TCU must quickly find an alternative. In theory, the Pac, ACC, and Big 10 have eight spots which the Big 12 could fill and create four team super-leagues. This assumes all four conferences want 16 teams, each Big 12 team fits certain criteria laid out by other conferences, and all the other Power 5 teams stay put.

This is a chance to copy TCU and reach the power conference level amidst chaos. Notre Dame could be another wildcard, but it will likely remain independent. Their current television deal and the potential new playoff set up provide little incentive to join a conference for football.

In , a Supreme Court case involving the University of Oklahoma and the University of Georgia changed the tide of college football by allowing universities to negotiate their own TV deals. Ironically, the CFA signed multiple TV deals but was terminated in as conferences and individual teams with bigger names like Notre Dame decided to break off and sign their own national TV deals. So when SWC teams like Texas got wind of these new freedoms, they jumped on the opportunity to build a TV alliance faster than green grass through a goose.

But everyone was trying to get in on the action. The dissolution of the SWC, formation of the Big 12 and expansion of the Western Athletic Conference WAC gave way to some of the biggest cluster-you-know-whats in conference hopping history.

TCU was gaining ground and proving the nation wrong as underdogs once again under a new conference. The Frogs remained nationally ranked for the entire season of , finishing the regular season with only one loss.

On Nov. So why would a college football team that roused so much excitement in the Mountain West Conference would move to a conference where the odds were stacked?

Over his tenure in the Big 12, the Frogs have a current record of 71 wins and 44 losses, for a win-loss percentage of 0. Only time will tell whether the newest Big 12 acquisitions will pay off, or if TCU will seek another realignment.
