Why unlimited detail is fake
Incredibly, Euclideon can visualise that volume of data in less than one second. Data size is no longer an obstacle in viewing your massive projects.
With seamless cloud streaming and tablet and mobile compatibility field technicians of all types can rest-assured they can have access to the same 3D data models that are being used in the office. This live digital twinning means comprehensive and uninterrupted end-to-end business workflows. Version control and lack of full integration plague efficient business practice.
With Euclideon, those challenges are easily overcome with a single source of storage providing seamless access to breathtaking visualisations of massive point cloud data, that can be streamed or stored locally. Our capability to rapidly render massive data models, is all the more ground-breaking considering this can be done not just locally, but also from the cloud. The technology sector is often in the spotlight for security breaches and lack of sufficient data handling protocols. Customers have a right to be concerned.

Is it programmatically possible? Or is it just a scam for investors? Update : Since the only answer was based on voxels I have to copy this from their site: Unlimited Details method is very different to any 3D method that has been invented so far.

They clearly say it is not voxel-based. I updated my question. Daniel Dimovski: so it's almost impossible they found something "new". Do you know why? It's because if it cast at an angle, it would spill over onto adjacent objects and prevent re-use of instances.
You could argue that they could prebake very nice GI lighting, but they can't; the only way they can get their "unlimited detail" is by instancing the same objects several times. If you want to see some real exciting advances in point-based technology, go look at the upcoming game Dreams by Media Molecule. Those guys are way ahead of Euclideon, and guess what? Their stuff doesn't rely on pre-baked hierarchies, it's all genuinely real-time. If you want unlimited detail, just go buy a PS4 today.
But please, don't give these hacks any money. If only there were some way we could find out how their idea works. If only There is! It's not an especially exciting read, most patents aren't. I'll summarize the description here: The scene is stored as a number of objects. Most objects are rendered using the fast orthographic method.
Objects up close are rendered using the slow perspective method. Written by Richard Mitton, software engineer and travelling wizard. Impressive tech, for sure. The revelation that there is a heavy pre-processing step speaks volumes though. Sometimes tech guys unfettered by PR teams just like to focus on tech. Sorry, miss calculated. I should also mention that the LAS format stores more than just position data and color.
Google comes up with a new algorithm to realtime search a data set that spans tens of thousands of computers and people yawn. News from Euclideon's Unlimited Detail.. According to asprs. According to this video, the demo in the video contained 50 billion [unique] points. For comparison: The Atomontage engine claims to be able to compress each point to less than 1 bit per point not including color.
The Aurora SGE claims to be able to compress points to 15 bits per point with lossless 24 bit rgb. According to the calculations above Euclideon is able to compress points to about 36 bits per point including color. Because they answer exactly the same questions multiple times in every single video they upload… Why did they move away from gaming?
